HelpCrew ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform, website, mobile application, or any of our services (collectively, the "Services").

This Privacy Policy has been developed in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). By accessing or using our Services, you consent to the collection, use, disclosure, and procedures this Privacy Policy describes.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy and, in some cases, we may provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to our website or sending you a notification).

Personal Information

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us. The types of personal information we may collect include:

  • We may also receive information about you from our partners and third parties, including but not limited to demographic information, device information, and information about your interests, which we may combine with other information we have about you.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect about you for various purposes in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles, including to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Services
  • Process transactions and send related information, including confirmations and receipts
  • Create and maintain your HelpCrew account
  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and requests and provide customer service
  • Communicate with you about products, services, offers, promotions, and events, and provide other news or information about us and our partners
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with our Services
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities and protect the rights and property of HelpCrew and others
  • Personalize and improve the Services and provide content, features, or advertisements that match your interests and preferences
  • Facilitate your ability to connect with others on HelpCrew by storing the contacts you provide
  • Carry out any other purpose described to you at the time the information was collected

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We may share information about you as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

  • With third-party vendors, consultants, and other service providers: We may share your information with third-party vendors, consultants, and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf. These include:
    • Supabase for database management and user authentication
    • Stripe for payment processing
    • Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting
  • In response to legal requests: We may disclose information about you in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request. In such cases, we will notify you if permitted by law and not contrary to the request.
  • For safety and protection: We may share information if we believe disclosure is necessary and appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of HelpCrew, our users, or others.
  • In business transfers: We may share or transfer information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
  • Between and among HelpCrew and our current and future parents, affiliates, and subsidiaries: We may share information between and among HelpCrew and our current and future parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, and other companies under common control and ownership.
  • With your consent: We may share information with your consent or at your direction, including when you choose to share information with a social network or other third party through the Services.

In accordance with the APPs, we take reasonable steps to ensure that these third parties handle your personal information in accordance with the APPs and our instructions. We do not permit them to use or disclose your personal information for any purpose other than providing services to us.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no security system is impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the security of our systems 100%. In the event that any information under our control is compromised as a result of a breach of security, we will take reasonable steps to investigate the situation and, where appropriate, notify those individuals whose information may have been compromised and take other steps, in accordance with any applicable laws and regulations, including the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under the Privacy Act.

6. Data Storage and Cross-Border Disclosure

Your personal information is stored by us on servers provided by Supabase and AWS, which are located in various regions globally, including Australia, the United States, and Europe. This means your information may be transferred to, and maintained on, computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction.

In accordance with APP 8, before we disclose your personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient does not breach the APPs in relation to the information. This may include:

  • Entering into contracts with service providers that require them to handle information in accordance with the APPs
  • Ensuring recipients are located in countries with similar privacy protection laws
  • Obtaining your specific consent to overseas disclosure where required

By providing your personal information to us, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations. If you do not consent to this transfer, you should not use our Services.

7. Your Rights and Choices

In accordance with the Australian Privacy Act and APPs, you have the right to:

  • Access: You can request access to the personal information we hold about you. We will provide access within a reasonable period, except in limited circumstances where the APPs allow us to deny access.
  • Correction: If you believe that any information we hold about you is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading, please contact us. We will take reasonable steps to correct any such information.
  • Deletion: You may request deletion of your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
  • Objection: You may object to certain uses and disclosures of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy.
  • Communication preferences: You can opt out of receiving promotional communications from us by following the instructions in those communications or by adjusting your notification settings in your account. If you opt out, we may still send you non-promotional communications, such as those about your account or our ongoing business relations.
  • Mobile push notifications/alerts: With your consent, we may send promotional and non-promotional push notifications or alerts to your mobile device. You can deactivate these messages at any time by changing the notification settings on your mobile device.

We and our third-party service providers use cookies and similar technologies (e.g., web beacons, pixels, tags, and device identifiers) to recognize you when you return to our Services and to provide personalized features, analyse usage, and deliver targeted advertisements.
